This document defines pseudo-localization mode for TODOS.phase-72.72.11.1.13.
The generated en-XA locale expands strings by 30 percent, adds accents, wraps
text in brackets, preserves variable tokens, and reports UI overflow risk
without waiting for real translations.
Generation#
V2/ue/Tools/generate-v2-pseudo-localization.py reads
V2/ue/Content/Localization/V2/Pseudo/PseudoLocalizationRules_V2.json and the
source en-US translation file, then writes:
V2/ue/Content/Localization/V2/Pseudo/en-XA.pseudo.v2loc.jsonV2/ue/Content/Localization/V2/Pseudo/PseudoLocalizationReport_V2.json
The generator accents only text segments outside named variable tokens and wraps
each pseudo string with [!! and !!]. Expansion fill is appended after the
accented text so compact UI surfaces are stressed consistently.
Run the generator after source strings or pseudo rules change:
python3 V2/ue/Tools/generate-v2-pseudo-localization.py
Overflow Detection#
The report compares pseudo string length against each entry's
maxCharacterLength. Entries above that UI budget are marked overflow-risk so
layout owners can fix clipping before paid localization begins.
Verification#
Run this gate after changing pseudo rules, generated output, docs, or CI wiring:
python3 V2/ue/Tools/check-v2-pseudo-localization.py
